PEER 1

Good evening ladies and gentlemen,

  • Discuss in 250-300 words the importance of preparing the necessary documents related to current issues specific to death and dying. Consider the following documents and their significance not only to your death but to family: Life Insurance, Death Certificate, Advance Directives, Living Will, Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care, Will (testate versus intestate), Trusts, and Pour-over will.

Not everyone knows when their last breath will be, some have an estimate but overall, the importance of being ready is essential. The necessary documents are usually looked over by an individual(s) attorney to confirm the information provided is correct and in detail so that being understood is of the importance. Depending on the death, a doctor(s) point of view may be put in as a detail for how and possibly why the death happened. My situation is understood and provided that in the case that I pass my family is taken

care of and everything goes to them, what they do with it is their proposition and guidelines state the reason and beneficiaries for the estates and trust.

I don’t want fighting in my family if and when I pass, I know they will be taken care of and won’t have to worry about certain things for a while, but I also want them to understand the importance of family, of the identity and hospitality that shows what they have learned and what they plan on passing on. Lossing someone can trigger different things in the body and mind, but it also has after affects with what to do with the residence, property, foundation(s), etc. and gathering up all the small and large details will help some of the transition but enable a time and place for everything when needed.

PEER 2

While most of us don’t like to think about the end of life, it is important that we make preparations that can help us to have the death that we want, and leave behind the protection that we want for our loved ones when we are gone. One way we can accomplish this is to have a living will. This includes advanced directives instructing family members and medical staff on how we wish to be treated at the end of life when we are unable to voice our wishes to them (Haley et al., 2021). This could be due to mental decline like dementia, or physical incapacitation that would prevent one from speaking whether they wish to be intubated, receive CPR, or have any other life prolonging measures taken during their last days. It could also include whether one wants to remain at home to die, or in a hospital or hospice setting.

Another option for this is to appoint medical power of attorney, which gives a chosen person the ability to make decisions on behalf of someone who is unable to speak for themselves (Vitas Healthcase, n.d.). This requires a bit more trust as the individual will need to use their own judgement to make decisions for the incapacitated person, however it allows some flexibility in dealing with situations that have not been foreseen when filling our a living will.

After death, a common issue faced by the loved ones of the deceased person is financial hardship. Especially in cases where the person lost is either a significant contributor of income for the family, or the surviving family member has to cut back their work hours or quit their job entirely to take over the household duties of the deceased such as taking care of small children. In these cases, an important step that one can take to take care of their loved ones in the event of their untimely death is to have prepared life insurance as a financial security benefit (Weber, 2020).
