While related, law and ethics are not the same. The law establishes what individuals MUST do, while ethics describes what individuals SHOULD do. What this means is that some things viewed as immoral may in fact not be illegal, and some illegal activities may not necessarily be immoral.

Hello Professor and Classmates,

The topic i chose to be immoral and should be illegal is obtaining an abortion. Not only for my religious view, but it’s so many ways people can prevent pregnancy. So killing a innocent life because of whatever reason you told yourself to make you feel better is murder, regardless if the human is here or not. Abortions promotes a culture in which human life is disposable. That should never be a message we are sending out. It’s so many families who are not able to conceive, but yet people who can gets a choice on whether they want to keep their unborn or kill it. I also believe that abortions eliminates potential societal contributions of a future human being. Example that abortion of that innocent life could have been that human who found a cure for HIV, the next President or the next greatest heart surgeon. Its so many reasons why i think abortions are immoral and should be illegal it would take me a life time to complete. I don’t want to offend anyone but this is my opinion.

The topic I choose to discuss is obtaining an abortion because many people are biased when it comes to this subject. If you or your family are very religious of course, you would think an abortion would be immorally wrong. There are some religions believe that a life should not be destroyed and it should be valued. I think to have an abortion should be left up to the woman, and if she is married or has a boyfriend, it should be discussed with the other person before making the decision. Abortion can be immorally wrong and moral; it depends on the situation. Women are raped everyday, what if she gets pregnant by her predator? She is not going to want to have the baby, because every time she looks at the baby, it will remind her of the trauma it put her through. Then you have women that get an abortion like buying a new car. These women need to think more logically by accepting responsibility for their actions. There are birth control and condoms. If she cannot afford it, I am sure the health department gives out free condoms and birth control. I believe that abortion should be legal because a woman has the empower right to choose to do what she wants with her body. Every person has the given human right to their privacy protected under the 9th amendment, and it should not be anybody’s business but the two people who conceived a baby.
