Personality Development Theories Essay

Choose two of the following theorists:

• Maslow
• Rogers
• May
• Allport
• McCrae & Costa
• Skinner
• Bandura

Compare/contrast the two theories, identifying the similarities and differences between them. Be sure to incorporate a summary of the essential/important concepts of each theory as you discuss. Some questions to consider:

• Do these theorists agree on basic assumptions regarding personality development? How does each theorist come to these assumptions (i.e., other theories; data; cultural/historical attitudes, etc.)? What school of thought does each theorist represent?
• Are there differences in any basic assumptions regarding personality development? If so, what are those differences, and why do the theorists disagree?
• Is either of these theories considered to have been influenced by the other? If so, how? (e.g., is one theory an extension of the other? A reaction to the other? An attempt to test the other?)
• How do the theories compare on their usefulness (critiques/evaluations of theories) and concepts of humanity?
• Which theory do you find most compelling, and why?

This paper should be 5-7 pages long, well-organized, grammatically correct. You should cite text page numbers throughout the paper indicating where you found each concept that you are discussing. You should include a reference page citing your text book and any other sources that you consulted and cited in your paper (additional sources are optional).
