Order Paper NowThis assignment is looking for:
Mainly looking for succinct, precise, and accurate writing, evidence of understanding the topic and whether the media article accurately portrays the scientific paper once you unpack it fully.
Your essay should include a summary of your popular press article at the beginning, followed by a complete summary of your scientific research article, including background information, methods, results, conclusion etc. After the conclusion section, you should have a comparison section where you discuss the accuracy of the popular press article in light of learning about the actual scientific paper. You can examine other research articles published in any year insofar as they shed light on the focal pieces. You can do this in the conclusion or comparison sections (or both) and even in the introduction if applicable (as long as you incorporate it and shed light on the topic).
You can follow the following format and headers:
Abstract
Separate page – 150 words summarizing the entire paper. It is often best to do this last.
Introduction (purpose)
Brief description of your media article and the key arguments, noting the scientific paper it was written about.
Follow with a thesis statement that mentions that you compare a popular press article to the original research to assess the accuracy of disseminating research findings to the general public. To do so, state that you will outline the scientific article’s introduction, methods, results, and conclusions, followed by a comparison.
Then, in a separate paragraph, discuss the background information of the original research article and can include additional references (what was studied and why – what were the other research findings that made these authors research this?)
Methods
Only include things that are relevant to understanding the research (e.g. don’t include things like participant background, ethnicity or age of participants unless that is relevant to the study)
Results
What did the data show?
Conclusions
What did the authors say about what the data showed? Implications? Other potential findings that can supplement or qualify these conclusions?
Comparison
What did the popular press say about the researchers’ conclusions, and was it accurate (discuss discrepancies or whether it was conveyed well/accurately)? Here you can also add additional sources that can help shed light on the topic, so the reader has a fuller understanding (or in the conclusions section after reviewing what the authors’ said about the results).

The “good – great” Paper
Thesis: Easily identifiable, plausible, novel, sophisticated, insightful, crystal clear. Connects well with paper title.
Structure: Evident, understandable, appropriate for thesis. Excellent transitions from point to point. Paragraphs support solid topic sentences.
Use of evidence: Primary source information used to buttress every point with at least one example. Examples support mini-thesis and fit within paragraph. Excellent integration of quoted material into sentences. Demonstrates an in depth understanding of the ideas in the articles and critically evaluates/responds to those ideas in an analytical, persuasive manner.
Analysis: Author clearly relates evidence to “mini-thesis” (topic sentence); analysis is fresh and exciting, posing new ways to think of the material. Work displays critical thinking and avoids simplistic description or summary of information.
Logic and argumentation: All ideas in the paper flow logically; the argument is identifiable, reasonable, and sound. Author anticipates and successfully defuses counter-arguments; makes novel connections to outside material (from other parts of the class, or other classes), which illuminate thesis. Creates appropriate university level, academic tone.
Mechanics: Sentence structure, grammar, and diction excellent; correct use of punctuation and citation style; minimal to no spelling errors; absolutely no run-on sentences or comma splices. Conforms in every way to format requirements.

The paper should not exceed 1500 words in length, excluding references. Quality is much more important than quantity. You are required to type the paper and you are advised to use a modern word-processing package. Papers must be double spaced and submitted in .docx format. Subheadings are usually a good idea, because they help you and the reader to see the organization at a glance. State the purpose of your paper clearly in the introductory paragraphs of your essay, so that the reader knows what to expect. You should have a reference list at the end of your paper. This reference list should include all published sources of information to which you refer in the paper. In the paper itself, be sure to give your sources for every substantial body of evidence that you cite. Give the name(s) and date(s) of the article(s) within parentheses (e.g. Jones, 1993) in the first sentence discussing the work and use proper APA format (you will be graded on your APA format).
