Personality Theoretical Concepts Discussion

Choose ONE of the following theorists:   Rogers, May, OR Allport

Respond to the questions below:

1.  Which aspects of the theory do you feel are consistent with your personality or personality development? Which are not?

• Be sure to include a basic summary of the most important elements of the theory

2.  Choose  THREE (3)  distinct concepts from the chapter that you can apply to your own development.

• Define/explain each concept in your own words.
• Use specific examples from your own experience to illustrate how each concept applies to you/your development.

3.  Are there any cultural factors that come into play regarding this theory of personality and your own experiences/development?

• The issue of culture is addressed to varying degrees in some chapters more clearly than in others. You should think here about your own cultural circumstances–gender, socioeconomic/social class, sociohistorical time period, unique personal history, etc.–and speculate about how those factors might influence personality development within the current theory.  (For example, if you were applying Freud’s theory, you might address how being female results in a slightly different superego process than being male; you might also speculate whether you think that current sociohistorical attitudes regarding sexuality might affect how Freud’s theory is applied.)
